wow.... making it sound like i am a knight or something. haha... someone commented that another co-worker along with me had nursed her mom in her final journey making it a relatively painless and comfortable one. wow... let me see... i hardly pack cases so i really can't figure out who was the person was, plus the other person mentioned was in a totally different team with me. she was the front room girl and me the back room so... how would it be that we had nursed the same patient!??! i am puzzled.

the other more puzzling thing is... why didn't the bosses tell us that? normally the bosses will photocopy such things and then track back who was the patient, then... they will tell us that so and so had wrote such and such about us. the last letter i got from a patient relative was not with this co-worker but another one so.... o_O?? who...who....who??? tomorrow i must make it a point to bug my boss about that.

mental note: this entry is too cheer-y, dampen it i would... hahaha..

i am really glad that patients and their relatives see the effort we put in to make them comfortable in a rather strange and threatening environment. (imagine always being woken up in the middle of your sleep to get your blood pressure taken and kena blood taking every so often). it can be really frustrating to be nursing people who treat nurses like dirt and worst still MAID... =(

we are a nation filled with expectation. we expect the bus and mrt to be on time. we expect our kids to do well in school (if not it must be the teacher's fault for taking mc all the time!). we expect our government to filter out everything and anything bad. and because of all these expectation, sometimes its really terrible to work in our setting. 13 patients (not amounting to their relatives and friends) facing 1 or 2 nurses, they request we (try) to meet their expectation in time but when we aren't quite up to their expectation they will get upset and stuff. turn the table around... its 1 or 2 nurses dealing with 13 individuals! is that an easy task? sigh... because of my personality plus the 'training' at the workplace i realised grace is very important. treat others with grace, even if its really tough to...try!!!!

i salute my da-jie for being a teacher! 30+ underage kids screaming in a classroom + handing their parents - all filled with high expectation for everyone of their precious baby... wow.... how stress can it be! thank God i am not a teacher... if not, no amount of teacher's day bribe ops... i meant gifts will make me cheerful and glad. =)

bottomline....treat NURSES well!! and....WORLD PEACE! hahaha.... =P

help is great!

its the season of students! =) yipee ya ya yo! we are having at least 2 students per shift, per room and its great! with the extra help at hand we can get things done faster and better. i get to shower the dirtiest patient (in my view) today! and still managed to get everyone to go for break!! i am so elated!

although the 1st year girls are still blur like sotong and excited over getting their skill signed. they are generally good for attending call bells. skills and reaction can be cultivated over time but hopefully not over too long a time! but since they are students no point killing them byb expecting the sky from them (in fact some of our own staff can't provide the sky lor). but i have the tendency to want to train them ready to be a staff nurse. they are going to be one anyway, unless they decide to forgo that 3 years of hardwork? so i push them a little along the way. since i look naturally grumpy, i think they are rather fearful of me (in all the wrong way!!).

i pity the NP students.they education doesn't equip them with the stress ahead as a proper staff nurse. regardless of them wanting to be 1 or not they have to pass their final posting and be able to take cases but... they aren't ready!!! 3rd years girls are terrible! they are still like kidos!! not steady enough and simple things also can't handle. making things worst they 'mother hen' is pecking in all the wrong places!! instead of focusing on the skill (which students don't get much of the hands on in school) she is doing theory teaching and trying to make them critical think!! huh?!?! without the ability to assess the patient and do the necessary skill to save the patient, critical thinking is what chinese would say "talk about war on paper only". i got my fair share of pulling my hair the other day and today was cyn.'s turn. she really wanted to KILL the 'mother hen' sia. haha...

this is the FINAL posting for the 3rd yr girls before their PRCP so i have no idea why the lecturer is pushing them to take cases!?!?!?! they will have plently of time for that. they OUGHT to brush up on their basic care and skill in this FINAL posting before PRCP wat! if i am going to a kido for her PRCP and she is like this kind of pattern... i pity her!! i will surely whack her up and down, left and right sia! can't do basic care how are you going to lead your junior!??!?!?! *faint*

NYP rulez... the lecturers in NYP are going a great job training the kidos there. hopefully the standard remains. with the upcoming duke grad.sn i wonder which school will provide better students. hmm... i really wonder.

goodbye is the hardest thing to say

There are only a few patients that had stepped into my life and my heart. I wonder if I too had stepped into theirs but 1 thing for sure, they had into mine. I may not show my affection overtly but in my subtle ways always looking out for them, giving them a little extra care and concern.

1 of our "long time" patient is passing on. Her family and friends had all came to see her and be by her side, regardless of weather or day someone will always be with her. She is very much loved. Recently her condition purged, her hubby was really affected. I was talking to him recently and he teared. He said how short it was for him to spend the past 40 years with her and how he feels about her suffering. She was not letting go because she worries for her hubby and her hubby has to put up a brave front when facing her so that she will not worry. Their love and care for each other goes beyond the fresh love young people have for their new found love, it goes beyond the "being together is a committment" between middle aged estranged couples. I wanted to cry with him but I didn't. I just stood there listening.

I pray for her to pass on smoothly and smile as she bid her family her last goodbye. I predict a tearful farewell but crying is good for the soul/s. A time to release and to recover. I wish I can do more but I can't. Goodbye my friend, you who had seen me through the years, from the time I 1st pass out as a newbie til now a worn-out dusty grumpy missy. *sigh* Y.. you will be the selected few names that I will always remember in my heart. Goodbye my friend, I pray that you will find peace.

the sensitive one...

another post on the night staff. the sensitive one.

the night was as usual- crazy, i presume. i had resign to watever and SHUT BOTH my eyes this time. uncompleted I/O chart? ok... i just total for the night jr. chart not complete? i just fold lor but... eventually it was still not completed... *sigh* never mind lar. i don't care liao. (TELL ME WHAT SORT OF STANDARD CAN WE MAINTAIN IF WE CAN'T WORK PROFESSIONALY OR RATIONALY?!) i? ZEN baby... ZEN it out... no point killing myself. if people are here just for money and if my patients are not harm, chart uncompleted or weigh not taken i will shut up and let it be.

it was not even 7am. the night lady pushed the bed 2 back to the room (apparently they had sat her on the commode and wheeled her everywhere with them to keep an eye on her) and said loudly "i can't keep having her around everywhere i go rite? i still have plently to do leh." i took the hint and took over the patient. no need for extensive conversion of why and how, i just said "i'll take her from here". what did i do with bed 2? mm.. .i send bed 2 to toilet and wheel her infront of a mirror. bed 2 enjoy looking in the mirror lah... and guess what she did? she was squeezing her black/white heads! hahah... i thot that was way funny!

while passing the morning roll-call, someone just casaually asked another someone from the morning shift why is the disposal room so dirty, wet and smelly. lady sensitive heard it and felt people was talking abt her and started again!! "yah lar. the disposal room dirty also my fault lar!" and bang bang the things she was holding/ taking from the table where we were standing for the roll-call. *sigh* i was ZEN but felt she was totally out of her mind! nobody said anything about her being the one that make the room that way wat?! if i am younger by 5-8yrs, i may be kicking up a fussy about her damn behaviour. but i am too old to get involve in such childish act or... am i wiser or am i just too bo-chap? i don't know.

i remember she ever said this sentence "ya lar. i am the most useless SSN around lar." in the span of 2 days. i feel sad for her although i am displeased and offended by her. her childhood may had mould her to be what she is now but that should never be an excuse for her to behave that way.

like a clay, the past had mould us into the present shape. but we hold the power to change the 'mould' of this clay! we can choose to put that disfigured clay work into the furnance and forever be fixed in it or choose to destroy the work and remould ourselves using that same clay. *sigh*... people ah...

sour face

my face had recently offended someone from the night shift! since i am not a morning person or an early-riser. i have this terrible face in the morning. i don't deliberately look angry or piss but i just look that way if i don't get enough sleep. but apparently people can be ultra sensitive about another person's look. perhaps soon i will recieve complaints about me being ugly and fat! =`(

back to the story...
the night shift that they had was crazy, with patients that enjoy calling for no good reason, attempting to climb out of bed and new staff that know nuts about totalling charts and are probly slow as well. the staff arrangement in my view is plain CRAZY but since i am not the one doing the staffing i will never know the stress.

so came morning. since i hate morning but knew there will be plently to do, i went early. check my assignment... damn! its jr again! and check it out! my i/c was WL that i had previously talk abt. i was already totally not in the mood! she WON'T HELP one lor... i walked into the room and check the pt, look through the charts and start hearing complaint abt the new staff and how bed 2 was giving them hell. since pple said to MAKE SURE i check through the chart and ensure all is done, i did just that lor. i ask why is the gastric aspiration not done only mah... then.... the jr from the other room screamed at me liao! *faint* initially i just kept quiet thinking its the toll from the work that had make her lost her temper but it went on and on and on. til i can take it no longer (she was screaming and with all the awaken patients listening. those not awoken yet are probly shook out of their slumber land!). i asked her in my not so friendly voice "why are you venting your anger on me?" and the reply came with a whole lot of screaming from her. from comments about my sour face to why can't i ask properly to 'ya la. i will stay back til 12pm to make sure everything is done'. HUH?! i immediately switched to ZEN mood and that was accompanied by SPACE OUT mood. my ic DID NOTHING that morning and our floater was indeed floating s...l...o...w...y in space. *sigh* only after 11am did i start waking up a little from my 'moods' but was so drained from the morning incident that if i was ever diagnosed with depression it was a great time to relapse!

reached home felt so drained that i can't be bother to eat properly. end up having the entire walnut cake in the fridge and hit the bed before 8pm and slept thru til the next morning. although i was awaken by my gastric pain and hunger, i was too tired to think about it and slipped back into slumber-land. thoughts of transfer arise once again, this time stronger than ever. *sigh* its hard to work with the bo-chap and the emotional kind. i miss Bo-jie and Frida...they are always so steady and cool.

should i call that lady or write her a note to understand what was her problem and say sorry if necessary? i thought about it but i felt a little victimised to do it. i shall just avoid her and keep my interaction with her to absolutely necessary only. yes.. that is what i will do... more in the next post.

prove it

a few moons ago i was a newbie too. i was the one who had to ask hundred and one questions. i was the one slow and dumb. i was the one waiting for the cue from the senior to prompt me into doing things. i was so desperate to prove that i am teachable, fast learner and lovable. the road to achieve those had with it plenty of "why" and "how". eventually with the coaching of some great people and the witnessing of some mistakes from others, i learnt and grew.

newbies are often eager to please and to prove themselves worthy. my newbie too. it hurts me to see how she is so preoccupied in doing that. i have yet to figure out what sort of person she is. i had yet to gather enough objective standing to analysis her. i am too 'attached' to her. not that i am all lovey dovey with her but the label of she is my newbie blinds me from seeing her as a co-worker and a friend. i tried! but it was useless on my part. (now i understand why some parents are totally different when dealing with their own kids vs others' kids)

having worked in this setting for a period of time, i am adjusted to what is expected and perform it as required. but this expectation gives no mercy to the newbies (regardless of who). i expect but they can't deliver and i get frustrated. *sigh*

recalling XH, i saw her as a person that wanted very much to prove she can MAKE IT. not to discuss her know-how, i know she tried very hard but no matter how this work demands can't fit into her. (or is it the other way round?) anyway, i recalled her telling others that she can do this and that. isn't it a way to prove herself to gain creditability? jumping into the limelight to gain trust and support. does it work? i think it does in lots of places (eg-sales people) its a person-marketing strategy afterall. but i don't buy that. in fact its distasteful in my view. i want to see the real stuff to be believe.

as the more my newbie tries to move nearer to me the more i bring out my rule and measure her worth. i am such a skeptic! i don't want to but i can't help it. hold her hand and guide her in love that is what i know what i ought to do. but i don't know how. i don't think i had ever had a good relationship with teachers, you see. my 1 and best mentor in life was my SP-Adeline; sadly our close relationship last only that long. after i was spiritually stable enough our relationship drifted so... *sigh* i think i suck at relationship PERIOD.

compassion?!

i was actually planning to blog abt the 5Cs in my other blog but i decided against it. its mainly negative remarks and can be a pretty bad way to impress myself upon those that i work with. i think i might stop blogging there. =(

compassion. jesus had it, peter and paul had it but do i really have it? i had heard praises from friends and people that i know when they found out that i am in the nursing line. changing diapers, wiping asses... actually, what is so noble about doing these dirty jobs? i don't think its noble at all and it doesn't really take a whole lots of compassion doing it. at least thats wat i feel.

compassion in my view it to feel like the relatives of the patients, to be able to feel for the patients and to put myself into the shoes of the unwell. me however had not been able to do so. i love the 'doing' part of my job. inserting catheter, taking blood, putting up transfusion, giving meds and knowing its effects... i enjoy seeing how an initially ill-looking frail person turn well and energetic on discharge. but is that compassion?

my compassion might be there for last stage cancer patients who are dying soon. my compassion was to pray for their relieve to hasten so that they may be 'well' soon. my compassion may be for the bed-ridden and totally helpless patient which is constantly ill regardless of how much transfusion or replacement therapy we are 'forcing' into her system.

my compassion for the seemingly well ladies that are mainly in the ward for their emotional and social issues? NONE. my compassion for the loud mouth, UPDATE ME! UPDATE ME! relatives? NONE!

number 1- we are not running a social charity half-way house. just because you DO have some chronic illness and you just hated the sight of your son/spouse/daughter-in-law, you complaint of constipation/headache/giddiness and get warded? while you stay, you order others around as if you are paying (but ahem.. the taxpayers are!) thus the staff are you slaves?! when you are told to go home, you cough up new complaints and new investigations ordered. needles are your best friends and you wonder why you have no drips or blood taking on somedays. but when you have to be on drips and tubes of blood extracted from your veins your complaint why always poke you. blah blah blah... THESE ARE THE REASONS I TRY NOT TO BE TOO FAMILIAR W FREQ "fliers".

number 2- stop coming to the counter and scream UPDATE ME PLS. i don't give a damn if you are the patient's sister's daughter's boyfriend who happens to be working in the same company as me or the patient's cousin's granddaughter's husband. or even if you are the 4th son of the patient- who happened to had given birth to 13 kids in total but is actually cared for by 1 unmarried daughter. or maybe you are the 1 of the 40 grandkids that the patient has, not counting the numerous other related kids that came just for the sake of running along the corridors! the Dr had updated the MAIN SPOKEPERSON. so go and ask him/her! what the hell do you mean by saying "but that person does not really understand what is going on" huh?! not sure then change the main spoke person can? get someone that has the influence and the understanding to talk to the Dr lar. why torture us? and the most interesting shit is... when i tell you "the Dr had already update the main spoke person (the son/daughter..) this morning it will be best if you check with them" the reply was "BUT I AM THE SON/ GRANDDAUGHTER, CAN'T YOU GIVE ME JUST A BRIEF UPDATE? I DON'T LIVE WITH MY UNCLE SO I HADN'T HEAR FROM HIM." omg! keep your family shit at home behind close doors! who really care if son A hates daughter C and their families are at loggerheads? i am just a nurse. I NURSE THE PATIENT! but seemingly these days we have to nurse the patient's family and even extended family too. why?!?! why do they love to tell us their emotional struggle on caregiver stress or even stress from the maid?! *faint* my norm is i will gently re-enforce the main spoke person policy while giving the ___(insert relationship here)___ a run down of the patient's condition. actually if we are strict with the confidentially cause, with regard to the JCI we should NEVER do that and if we must shouldn't we then request for the person IC too? haha... so much of the BLACK and WHITE... nursing deals too much with the GREY!

why do i blog abt compassion today? cuz recently i was so pissed by somebody (whom in my view is just another "I CAN SPEAK ENGLISH WELL SO I AM BIG SHOT" but actually looks and behaves like a totally no manners idiot. i strongly suspect he is just another taxi driver and engages in illegal betting sort of guy). so pissed that i wanted to shout back into this face and scream can't you see i am busy!? here take my name and complaint for all that i care. (which i didn't of cuz! i even said thank you at the end of the 'talk')

**just to clarify...i have nothing against taxi-drivers and i don't look down on them of any sort. just that sometime i think they love to talk big that's all. otherwise, they are just as important as anybody in singapore. considering the amt of taxi trips i make weekly...they are damn important lor...=P**

updates...

there is a change in the grp of allied healthcare people we are working with recently. the OT is a much more pleasant person and our PT is finally back from her break. these ladies are great! (our previous OT and PT were not bad too.) as for the dietitian change...WOW!! thanks GOD! the new lady is so much BETTER and more human! haha.. the old lady was really nasty! did we owe her money or kill her father? i wonder... the new MSW... not much change... =( ST as usual is good... though they don't come everyday, they r consistent with they work. got ref? no prob. not like our old dietitian... got ref? wau lau! must beg her to come like that!

i met our EX-cleaner today at the coffee shop near home. actually she lives near us. recently i had not seen her for sometime so i asked the other cleaner and she said she 'moon' was on mc. only did i know she had been 'fired' by her boss and her work-permit cancelled! moon had a needle-prick injury recently (abt 2 weeks back) was it the cause? i have no idea. but it seems a cleaner at TT had a similar incident and died a few days back. was there a link in these? i have no idea but if it do then the WHOEVER that had left the damn needle stuck in the bruerett should just go and died! causing risk to other like not enough, still harm others' work opportunity. damn the whoever... that's surely isn't me cuz i never do such dumb thing. i asked her how now then... she said she did ask her boss if she can be transfer to other places if the current location boss isn't happy with her work (which is the main reason why her boss said to fire her) her boss actually said that she is well-known to the other bosses and even the n. and pts had complaint abt her. huh?!?! i wonder when and why... i thot she was ok, tell her to do things she will do and no need to follow up on reminders. but now that she is gone... i guess that is just life.. like my hubby said... "life is NEVER fair" that's true isn't it? afterall who can explain why paris hilton seems to have it all?

both eyes closing

the is this young pretty thing in my workplace. the day when she started work both Cdy and i had a distaste for her style of work. she doesn't do things right and when told off she argues back. somehow, i let it fly cuz i want to be nice to young girls like her, who knows what potential we might kill if we get too harsh with her? but i certainly HATE working with her and i think some of my co-workers had by now realised and agreed with me (they too DISLIKE that idea of working with her).

since we are in the same team, it is really hard not to work with her but thanks to the whoever that is in-charged of the rooster, i had not been working with her in the same shift for a long time since the last (that nearely make me into a murderer!). but taking over from her or passing report to her is something i can't avoid totally.

i had witnessed her made a few near misses in dishing out the 'candies' and overheard clients confronting her on the near-misses but i just kept my mouth shut. no point eating our youngs. then that day when i was watching the kids do dressing for a client, that client actually told me that our dear friend was not just rude and given her the wrong medicine. she was RUDE, checked! wrong medicine?! omg! so it was panadol... it was a 'when needed' dose so it was not actually the wrong meds. she should had asked but she didn't thus just giving blindly. when client confront "why do i still need this?" our dear friend reply was "dr ordered so u just take. its all written in the imr" *faint* after listening to the client i confronted our dear friend and she said "its ordered mah!" my reply was "its a prn dose, u don't even ask if she wants it or not huh? its prn if fever. pple got fever meh?" her reply was the most amusing one: "how will i know if she got fever?!" (her voice had raised and shouted like she was engaging in a fight!) *faint FAINT FAINT!* i felt like slapping her but i withheld my impulse and answered in an angry voice (maybe raised but i felt my blood gushing to my brain- tats for sure) "u r the staff n. and u don't know? clinical charts are for fun one huh? cannot check meh? u r nursing document or human huh?" aunt. ro_da came to the soften the tension by asking the other girl to continue with her reports. i was ready to be a stroke from this dear friend of ours,, if it had continued!

why both eyes closed?! cuz the day before when we passed to her there were a few d/c. normally the pm-girl will have to remove the old meds but she didn't. so fine... i can let it slide since boss ever said the one to d/c pt ought to remove the old stuff. then there were the oral meds that was ordered at 12pm but was not even obtained! @ 2pm she had X4 (obtaining supply) and @ 8pm realising her mistaken she had refused to sign or X4 but still SHE DID NOT OBTAIN the supply needed... come the next morning i was on with the new girl and that's the 3rd X4!! i was totally pissed... its antibiotics lor.. its not just some suppl. or vit. but *sigh*... i want to die liao.. when i spoke to her she still argue...

i can really understand why some old n. works for the sake of just coming to work. why take these things so personalised? its only kills us along the way. zen it out and its just an other day. if the kid want to play pranks so be it to her own death. no point coaching, just report to the top and the boss scold her. if she wants to argue thats non of my shit. but my personal take on it is... why bother the top if we can settle at our level? life will be simplier if everyone does his/her part well. i don't ask u to help or do the extra but if u can do watever is needed/ expected of u then it will be enough to make working less tiring.

for now.. i will only say "watever lah" if the standard become sub-standard its really not my shit to care for it. being a people-person is really not my forte. i am more of a 'bio-medical' model person than a scio-culture sensitive person really. because being the later is too draining.

new girls

lots of newbies in the workplace. slow, quick, aggressive, soft all sort of pattern one! i can't comment much since i was a newbie once too. 1 day if i go for my adv dip, i will be newbie in the ward once again. for that i shall try to earn some good karama by keeping my mouth shut and smile. every cloud has a sliver linning so nobody should judge another too quickly.

learn the hard way, learn the easy way, as long as things get taught->learnt and pass on, who cares by what method or by who leh? that's my take on things...maybe that's why i have such poor relationship with human being?? hmm... never had any relationship with animals/ plants will be fare better?! hmm....

out of the hell hole

met someone today, she asked me when i am going to hand in my transfer request form. i told her soon but is it going to be soon? i ponder about that. so many people had been picked to move out and so many request to be out, what about me? should i just sit around and wait for fate or chance to move me or should i activity seek for my cheese? my cheese had been moved, perhaps its really time to pick up the courage and put down the pride to request and seek for my new fresh cheese.

no point staying in a place to be a 'senior' but not learning new things. imparting is important if learning is constant but what if the one ought to impart had already start to decline or held at standstill... eventually we will all die... i seek new knowledge, new challenges and new adventures.

another reason for my strong motivation to move on is the idiot that sits in front of the computer, telephone, hold the power of making appoints and makes the decision to allocate beds. DAMN HER Fuking IDIOTIC FACE!

i am now in rm27 and the past practise was to divert phone-calls to rm27 after office hours so that administrative stuff can get settled. but this practise SUCKS big time! the next day when the clerk come back to work, she SIMPLY just forget to cut the divert and during the PEAK HOUR of our morning shift the damn phone just keep ringing for NON-NURSING related calls! hello...hello...hello... how many thousand times must we answer the call?!?! ....then... the new direction came saying that the divert will be no more, rather with the cordless phone, an allocated stuff will have to carry the phone during off office hours. BUT STILL THE MESSAGE ONLY GOT TO THE NURSES LOR! the phone was still diverted! DAMN IT!! ok... so it was settle after I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE SISTER ROOM TO ENQUIRE. (now must learnt from the bitch liao) but i have no idea why such ward base information/ instruction takes 2 days to get to the 1 PERSON THAT SHOULD KNOW IT MOST?! on another occasion, she has the cheek to ask WHAT IS WARD 77 and HOW COME SHE DON'T KNOW ABT IT?! huh??? all the nurses knew it, it was in the message book for 3 days liao leh... STUPID! is the central message ONLY FOR NURSES???? its for the WARD.. so isn't that bitch working in the WARD??! oh... damn it.. i forgot... she belong to the heaven's (or is it hell?) manpower headcount...so VERY DIFFERENT FROM US... we are merely coo-chi-coo-rah in her eyes huh?! my anger burns deep within me! how i wish to do certain things to her and her work-desk.. but i will resist!

another incident... nowadays the Business Office lady will call our individual rooms and ask "who's for discharge?" shouldn't it be the clerk's job to inform!?? why us!?? when i ask the staff to confirm with the clerk she said "your clerk tell me to call the individual room" huh?!?!?!?!? our 5Cs is stupid lor... consistency in POOR PERFORMANCE AND SHITTY WORK IS REWARDED AND APPRAISED AS TRUE CONSISTENCY!?!??! HOW BLIND CAN THE MANAGEMENT AND THOSE THAT VOTE HER BE?!?!

yet another incident... a staff from SNEC called me and ask me for the old notes of a certain patient. but old notes of discharge patients are handle by that bitch! so i ask her to check with her... the reply from the other side (word for word) "i called her just now for another thing and she was so rude! i don't want to deal with her already. if she is rude to me again, i will complaint about her." my reply? well i totally agreed with her so i said "yah, i think so too. but i don't have any discharged patients' notes in my room leh. let me re-direct you to my clerk, pls hold on." tried to direct the line but the line was ENGAGED!!! (as always!) so i took back the call and help the staff on the other line. finally found 2 vol of old notes for the pt... that was discharge 2-3 days ago!!! why were it not cleared in time?!? BEATS ME!!

i had been telling everyone... if 1 day i tender my resignation, it will be within 24 hrs and it will be due to that fulgy bitch! to that i rest my case... am i too emotional? perhaps... yet i am still a believer of "u scratch my back, i'll scratch urs"... u may say i am damn unprofessional and such a brat... no doubt abt it..i admit it...

can't stop thinking abt it...

there is this pt laying next to my counter. she is clinically ill but otherwise seems well. she is often drowsy thus sleeping and i realised she was not eating well. ok, i admit she seems getting better than when she 1st came in. her team however seems to be going easy with her and i strongly think that '老子' doesn't know his patient very well lor.

i had not nurse this pt for 2 or 3 days in between so i don't know if she had been through this and that. but her team ought to know mah. he ordered this test which the pt had already done 2 days ago when the nurses tell him, he was like 'is it?' *faint* and still want to argue!! the nurse that push the pt tat day and stay with her at the lab was in the room lor! *faint* then since that '老子' was in the room, i pointed that the pt's IMR diet had been on NBM and never r/v! pt is already eating for days liao. ok, maybe i was nasty to say "please change, if JCI track this pt record for audit we will surely fail one lor". so he change the imr order. than i told him that pt is not swollowing well maybe should refer ST. he just brush it off and said "tmr lar" huh? i thot ST work til 5pm on weekday? i questioned him no more. my conclusion... '老子' is kena_sai!!

at 5 pm, i heard from the PM girl that this pt is for transfer back to the principle ward. but she is not B2 and not starting chemo why going upstair leh, i wonder. my only conclusion is tat '老子' can't stand the idiots (the nurses here?) that seems to think so highly of themselves to suggest this and that to him. but dealing with him only for 2 days i realised tat he is plain LAZY lor!! no wonder '马丽n' didn't lend him a helping hand a few days ago... but then again '马丽n' is not known for being helpful one lor...

PLEASE... NO MORE 'BLOODY' OVERFLOW liao!! saya nak muntah darah *vomits*... =P hey my malayu pow-er sia?! =P

esther ma_ma?

haha... that is what josephine love to call me. haha... if it was called in term of some korean style it should means that she is calling me "lady esther" but i know she meant to call me mama as in mummy or mother lor. haha.. i fat fat so she feels i am so motherly?! haha... funny but sweet.

i tried to be the mummy that i expect myself to be, to the baby of our ward. she is surprisingly not so young lor. she is 22!! hehee... but both our brothers are 15! =P trying to bridge our gap, i asked her out for dinner. we chat a little here and there; about adjusting to the new ward and how life was it like in her 'old' ward. indeed it is different. but wards are like human, no 2 are exactly the same mah. there were awkward silent periods in between cuz i was really tired. =(

we chat a little on expectations and the danger in work. haha... i tried to brain wash her into believing that life is evil, people are non-trustable! haha... no lar... you think i am really that terrible meh?!?! i can see that she is an achiever, setting goals and expectations for herself, wanting to prove she CAN DO IT yet everything she kena was rather shitty. poor girl...

she set a plug but plug get out of vein within 3 hours cuz pt kept accidentally pull and twist it. IDC insertion - the site was so difficult to find and she was too gentle and careful, so took 30 minutes also cannot make it in. but dare not call for help til i peek in and caught her reassuring the pt but actually telling herself that. cuz too much time was wasted and i can't stand standing there holding the light while she kept trying and the pt kept whining. i did it instead. BIG BLOW to her ESTEEM i think. NGT insertion - pt is not a good candidate lor. pt cough cough and tube end up going in thru nose and out the mouth. *faint* but the ambulance was coming liao. i took over and inserted the tube instead. DOUBLE BLOW?! here comes the TRIPLE BLOW! her 1st 3 cases for ic was sucky cases too. 1- had to do 2d echo and was DIL ACTIVE lor. 2- stayed for ~3 weeks and was for d/c to hospice. 3- plain crazy and idiotic case lor. if she had easier cases and smoother skill practises she will gain more confident and be more energised bah.

i think what sadden her to tears are not my comments or what i had said but how she had interpret herself to be. well, at least i am not dealing with a kid that heck-care how the world functions or refuse to admit her lack. i am sure she will make it through and shine in her own special ways...and i don't think she is weak at all lor...

buddy meal?! o_O?!

i don't like to precept SN. cuz there is too much responsibility. i pity those girls that have to work in a ward different from their prcp ward. cuz there is an expectation (realistic or unrealistic, i don't know) for them.

having passed their prcp, they ought to know the workflow but each ward has their own set of flow too plus different setting make it tougher. thus thus... i don't know what to do with the new girl. correct the work not their personality or attitude. that is my motto in guiding my students, of cuz unless they are really ultra slow or lazy. cuz i personally believe each personality exist with a reason- to counter the other personalities out there. so no point moulding a hugh clone of mono-personality in the ward. i am not saying the young girl has any attitude problem. i am just saying it is hard for her to become a SN in our ward just like that. i don't want to drive anyone up the wall or cry, even if i ever had done that i never meant to. i am KIND!

but...but... i never had a proper preceptor! i was a 'bastard child' in my ward to start with. having prcp in the same discipline but different ward, i had a terrible time adjusting to 'new faces'. after that, i have an almost non-existing preceptor whom i NEVER had a relationship with EVER! everything i pick up in the ward was by watching and asking. so i have no idea how i can be of help to guide the young one. i hate myself for not being nice to her, for not having time to explain things to her and how i treated her different to how i treated my prcp kid. ='( plus i am always not around for her. poor kid. how is she going to live happily ever after here???

i know i don't have great buddy friends in the ward unlike those in clicks, i am rather reserve and not many love to be with me. haha.. so how can i help her bond with the rest?! *sigh* may the power be with her... hopefully someone will adopt her in their click and perhaps if they same the common enemy (me?!) they will form a great bond?!?! (see... villains have their purpose in the world too!)

in conclusion... if u read this entry and ward as me... to help to keep a look out for our new kids on the block. or maybe teach me how to be a good 'mummy'??

advance yourself!

with the increase paper chase, a person with real ability to do these is less valuable paperwise compared to a person with no actual hand-on but with tons of qualitification. excuse is - experience and skill can be gain on the job over time but qualitification is either you have it or you don't have it. hmm... but the same reasoning can work both way isn't it?

the advance diploma is recuiting again. a list of interesting topic awaits- from critical care to med-surg to psy. i wonder if i should apply then do my deg in the evening. but it will be pure madness to try to handle 2 different (yet similar) shit together. i might not even get it too. =(

ok, assume heaven is smiling at me and i get a high chance, what should i opt for? i used to enjoy med-surg (lots to learn) but recently i had development a keen interest in the topic of death. so dying is more associated with Onco the other alternative is pallative (part-time). but pallative in itself is useless unless paired with Onco (in my view). yet my prideful self urge me to try on critical care. critical care sound totally crazy! i don't really like that sort of setting (A&E - touch and go) but ICA/ ICU is pretty tempting.

afterall most of my friends (at least closer ones) from nursing course are already in their 'dream' land. 1 in A&E (although i heard he hates it there now. but... really meh?), 1 FINALLY in OT (i am happy for her), 1 had travel the world round! haha... he had been to rehab, renal and now A&E! haha... ok, i admit i am not VERY close to him. =P then another in ICU, actually 2 in ICU. argh... then me?? i am in a general-general ward,- not even a multi-discipline although we function like one. =(

back to the advance dip. the easiest to entry might well be genrotology although i don't think its any easier to study. but i don't want to do that! =( i don't want community health too. oh... wait... if i want to be a nurse practioner like those oversea- travel ard to home-visit and do clinic session sort- maybe it will be a good discipline?! hmm... interesting... let me go and dig out more... any advise?!

work-beware LONG ENTRY

so tired that i don't feel like blogging abt work anymore. why am i always bitching abt work? i am so sick and tired of my own bitching. yet i want to give thanks to my patients and their families! this is the 1st time since the start of the year that i am giving thanks for this!

taking over from the AM shift i have 2 empty beds, 1 pending for transfer in the PM, 1 d/c in the PM, 1 threaten AOR and 1 in the OT most probly to HD. that will mean that i will have technically 6 empty beds to turn over in 1 shift! making things more stressful the jr in the AM was infamous lady M.

while passing report, i told my jr to remember to fold those charts that are not completed and to ensure that AM jr does her everything before leaving. but in respond my jr was asking weird questions that how can i from PM or the AM ic answer for the AM jr? eg-"why the chart not update? why all the wound chart not update?" when told to just fold it up and ask the AM jr, her reply was "aiyo, i am folding everything. why like that?" none of the AM/PM ic was in the mood to gossip or to engage in small talk like such. we totally ignored her.

after report, new cases started to bugged me. 1 hugh thing that makes me boiled was this: my jr was sitting next to the phone. the phone rang and rang but she didn't picked it up. i was preparing my iv meds then. so i stared at her. do you know what she did?!?!?! SHE PICKED UP THE PHONE AND HANDED IT OVER TO ME WITHOUT ANSWERING IT! *vomit blood ++++* i answered the called, after that i can't contain it anymore and said in a hash tone (like scolding my younger siblings) "you very funny leh. why you can't answer the phone meh? must hand it over to me? somemore sitting there somemore" then... *drumroll* that start the black-face competition! see who can be most blackface of the shift sort.

10 minutes later. bed 9 had her tap done. i was giving bed 12 iv meds. then dr came to me for help on something. I AM GIVING IV MEDS LOR! so i called my jr to help. she SITTING at the counter asked "what?" i replied can u come over and help the dr at bed 9. SHE IS A STAFF NURSE BUT ACTED LIKE A STUDENT, when the dr told her the problem. CRITICAL THINKING!!! and she can't produce it! she stared at the dr and can't solve it. AIYO.... STAFF NURSE LEH...NO BRAIN TO THINK MEH? me half way giving IV med to a relatively difficult pt + family, handling sharps and doing some service recovery shit at the same time have to answer some dumb question just cuz my SN has NO thinking skill!!! i really want to die on the spot!

my world came crashing at 3.45pm onwards. problem started with CX's dumb co-ordination. she gave me a pt from day-surgery then cancel it without telling anyone or conforming with the other side. the OT called and called for the bed. finally i get someone to fetch the pt only to have another patient being wheeled up from A&E 20 minutes after. to make things worst, CX refuse to solve the problem! i kicked a fuss, she screamed at me saying she is going to call and solve the problem. ok fine.. i stood there doing another thing, 5 minutes later the A&E staff came and ask CX what's the outcome. CX HAD TOTALLY FORGOT ABT THE WHOLE THING!! AND REDIRECT THE A&E STAFF TO TALK TO ME!! i was standing there, remembered? so i said "HELLO. its the same problem that you told me that you are going to settle remember?" after some arguement, i let fly and shouted "watever lar" with sis Su sitting at the computer.

I REALLY HAVE ENOUGH WITH ALL THESE NON-NURSING SHIT THAT WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH!!!

that 'extra' pt was placed in bed 1. new pt vs pt back from OT. which is more critical? i don't know leh... my jr left the post-op lady on the bedpan and went on to waste some time. then she went to take new pt bed 1 parameter. i was calling the OTO team to review patient only to realise that i have no parameter to report. DAMN! after the phone-call. i looked at my jr and asked her. which is more important leh? post op hourly para or new pt (in for vomitting) para? somemore!!! she do para with machine one loh! like that still can take 15 minutes for 1 para!! *faint* then bed 4 shit all over herself at that time. bed 2 low Hb came in. everything started rushing!! my hands are tied and my jr is SLOW!

to wrap things up, i was crazy-running here and there. my AOR bed 8 and my PM d/c bed 13 and transfer case bed 12- all pity me! hahaha... at 1 point i nearly complaint to bed 12 abt my jr! but i think its really not good to do so, so i shut up and said don't want to say already wait pple say i talk bad abt others. my bed 12 so funny, still comfort me saying that must let out the steam if not will get sick one. haha.. so cute and funny! finally i settle the AOR and d/c case. they were really understanding!!! then said byebye to bed 12, after giving all her iv, injection, her pm meds. collect blood for bed 2. then... the whole cycle of admission start again! its was already 8.30pm!!! and i had not really look at the new admission orders!!!

FOR THE 1ST TIME IN HISTORY I WANT TO CRY ON THE JOB!! i had ever cried before cuz i dislike a few things and few unjustfied with regard to a few issues. BUT ON THE JOB?? NEVER!! i was never stress to that point of not being able to handle it anymore. the sound of the trolley's wheels makes me want to cry, stab myself with a knife and die!

if my jr is more proactive and a little 'smarter'. i don't mind doing things for her and other shit. but no lor... for the 1st time i finally understand why there were cases where some staff specifically request NEVER TO BE PUT IN THE SAME SHIFT AND SAME ROOM WITH SOME OTHER STAFF. i finally experienced it! i told YP that i NEVER EVER WANT TO WORK WITH WANG WANG AGAIN! yes!!! nEVER! if i ever see that we are together, i will immediately fake MC- and i am great at doing that! not a threat but a damn loud angry statement with really intensed feeling!

i have officially and openly display my displeasure with her (wang wang) and she knows that i was telling the ND girls abt her. she can be unhappy and dislike me from now. cuz my policy is... u don't like me, is ok. cuz i don't like u too.

honestly if wang wang is sick and weak, shouldn't she goes on mc? rather than come to work and does only 1/2 the amount of work than she can produce. then what? i have to be 1 and 1/2 becuz of that? its 3 am now, should i call in sick too? get an mc and report in as anaemia too. afterall its really not so hard for me.

why....

i had been seriously wanting not to blog abt work for a long. honestly there wasn't much to blog abt anyway. there is indeed life beyond work and i am enjoying it. sleeping early, watching my dvds and playing sudoku. =)

yet there are things in the workplace that makes me wonder. why are there people that are so rude and they actually think that by being rude they can be more superior. the fact is, i despise such creatures. yes! CREATURES! they are not even fit to be human! with the vast knowledge and experience of living, why can't they be more decent? tell me shit and expect me to be nice? damn it! i hope to curse them straight in the face and wish their parent died! but too bad for 1 lady, cuz her sons are rude but she is not. so... should i curse her too? nah... i will remind kind for the moment, afterall she made pineapple tarts for us once. haha.. i forgive her sons lar. heehee... i found it amusing when her husband actually said sorry to me for his rude son's behavior! haha... idiot son though! uncle said "u give me face lar. don't be angry, ok? u r a nurse should be more compassionate. don't be angry ok?" i would love to had snap at him and complaint abt his son at that point but... i was too busy. don't really want to be bothered by it and waste my time discussing stuff that had happened.

also why do relatives love to ask for update at god-forsaken time eg-when u r giving meds, half way doing h/c or when u r busy with other shit? still we got to smile and do the needful. i will certainly love to tell u what is wrong with u mom/ granny/ aunt but i am not free leh. so ok, i did the needful. i explained the problem, i even give u a bio. lesson with some chemistry and pharmacology thrown in. please don't ask me why is the lady lying on the bed so ill and why is she breathing so hard! we suctioned her, we repositioned her, propped up and did everything already. what do the people want to hear? aiyoo... i am no dr lar! if i can explain everything, i can be god liao lor... *faint*

another why... why are some people so easily excited? excited over this and that. can relax a little and be less excitable? the more excitable they are, the more undecisive they are and the more work we all need to do. crazy lady, want this stat and that stat. stupid leh... so excited that she came to me 2x to get things done STAT! on the 2nd time she was more polite and said "can u get one of ur collegue to help take the blood and send it of as urgent?" and then i replied "but its GXM leh" haha.. then she went "oh, yah." and went off, perhaps to stress her HO. haha.. and the other poor accident-prone lady came and took the bloods. poor patient 1 shift only kena poked at leass 4 times! *faint* all because of some undecisive crazy excitable lady.

even as i am blogging this, i am not frustrated or angry. just amused at what had happened in the day. i kept questioning myself "did i overwork my jr cuz i think i didn't help @ all. why was i so unsettle thru'out the shift when generally speaking the room was not very busy. why?!" i think i am crazy. haha...

rumbles-abt work

am i going to complaint again? i know there are people out that screaming at me "enough abt work already! shout up! live with those crazy brainless grumbles!" yet its my blog and i will blog as i please. yes... i will and shall continue to do so. bite me!

i am not complainting abt my partner today. there isn't a thing to complaint abt her actually. she did her work, she did it her pace. i didn't help her a bit honestly i don't really care if i help her or not. why? cuz i think there is no point being nice to a person that hold great potential in bully me. LOL... =P apart from her not completing my NCR-admission interview which she claims she had no way of communication with the pts. she did her charts and her work well. =)

then why am i black face and angry?! i am angry cuz my work desk is damn messy! and the new HO loves to bring the casenotes away and never return it to place!!! i am angry b'cuz i have 2 admissions, 1 E-OT case, 2 line-insertion back from HD at the same time, 1 bld transfusion. and... a very siao'on co-worker that loves to stay and complete her work til late late...all the while sitting at the work desk. very in the way lor... *faint* i don't mind her sitting there (or do i?!) but she kept doing the unnecessary, like helping me answer calls, recieve orders and instructions from Drs/ therapist. aiyo... like that how on earth can her work be completed?! *fume*

so... technically i got my offical handover at abt 4.30~5pm. but by than i was starting to get busy and i was unable to do my documentation. i was busy answering call-bells (why are there so many?!) and attending to pple who wants everything stat!!

B's family panick with every single alarm, even when femoral-line lady#2 bro was talking to me 1/2 way that B's daughter also can't wait. siao! then cough cough ah mah family also... *faint* i have no idea who and how they care for the lady! everyone looks so concern and well-dressed but ah mah looks like dirt! *spit* i-need-a-pint lady was the best! with hb as low as 5, she was still sweet and lovable. may her soul be bless! oh and that missy-ah ah mah... *faint + coma* she just kept shouting.. wake up from her nap only call for dinner liao... while it was not even 5pm!!! after explaining she shut up for a while but after that when we still serving she started screaming again! why does she keep thinking we will deprive her of her food, med,, changing of diaper and shower?! did she has a trouble childhood?! =P and mdm home-cm's daughter had so much 'property' that it spill over to my work-desk! excuse me lor... me see, what is not mine.. me throw! haha... she learnt her lesson. then later she pull the roller chair and said she wanted to sit, i said NO! its for the drs and staff only. haha... then she paise and push it back to the desk. aiyoo... too friendly also cannot! mdm bilateral UL swelling lady had diahorea at the wrong timing and when we were all so busy sending, fetching pt that time she poopoo many many til i have to change her. *faint* there are more to complaint but i am too tired to type all liao... my favourite patients now are basically lady mac'donaldes, lady femoral line #2 (#1 is so whinny!!) and lady dancer (she danced at her home's dinner event! wow..)

tomor i will be in another room doing jr work. *sigh* will it be just as busy?! hopefully not! i had pull the 2 silly pineapples down so we should not be so 'wang'. maybe should look for some sailing boat to put at the ward ... yi-fan-feng-shu meaning smooth sailing all the way.

ps-there were other interesting happening in every room today! mdm i-want-to-bite-my-tongue in the front and miss i-want-to-my-med-stat next door. my room? small case compared to theirs. MUST BE THAT SILLY PINEAPPLEs LAR!
